normandy beaches

the next day we started off....

we drove up to utah beach which was about 45 min away...it has the big beach and some monuments to see....they also have a little museum there....we ate lunch there...(while there a group of a father, son and grandson took our picture for us, this was interesting because we saw them throughout our trip to france)....it was windy and cold up there...in fact, on the beach i felt like i was going to fall over!

we drove down to omaha beach which is a really large beach...
from there we went to the american cemetery which was amazing to see....so many crosses....takes your breath away...but, by that time is was REALLY raining and windy...so we hurried through that...

drove back to bayeux and we're able to go see the bayeux tapestry...this tapestry is really old....from the 10th century...it has a cool story in it...i loved seeing such a fantastic piece of history....

france march 2015

on thursday march 26th i flew to paris to meet kerry, austin and cedar....this is a trip we've planned for austin's spring break....
russell, kristen, and russie are joining us tomorrow....(friday)....

we met up in paris on friday night..we stayed at a small little boutique hotel called le burgundy...it was a really nice hotel..seemed really new...the rooms we're sort of small, but very nice.....

went to bed and in the morning we took the train to rouen france.....it is north of paris about an hour....

rouen is where joan of arc was burned at the stake....we rented a car and kerry was voted to drive!

we tried to see some sights in the city...finally found the cathedral which was cool....but, it was really hard to get around...
so we voted to drive on to bayeux.....bayeux is where  the normandy D-day beaches are found...

bayeux is a darling little town...we got there at about 5 and just walked around the town for a bit...cute little shops...nothing opens for dinner until about 7:30...but we did find a pizza place at 7 that was open...the lady that was working there was a little grouchy when we took a seat with 5 chairs...but, we had a stroller and there was no other options....the food was fine...
nothing great...we went back to our hotel...the villa lara....it was a nice hotel...the rooms were big...the internet was pretty non existent...oh well!
