wishing and hoping and dreaming....of summertime

as you might notice, i have a new look...it's my summertime look...and i've got island fever...wish i was there right now...so hope you enjoy my island pictures...it's almost as good as being there? well, at least the weather is nice...the pool is nicer...and i've been enjoying it...so, if you can't go to an island...bring one to you....

balloon law

driving home today i was listening to 'jon and ken' on the radio and they were talking about the 'balloon law' that the state of CA is trying to pass...that you would not be able to sell the mylar balloons anymore...plus, there are a few more laws they are trying to pass...like charging 25 cents for a plastic or a paper bag...what's with our state? they try to nickel and dime us for everything...i just get tired of all the dumb laws they pass....seems like they are either trying to get more money out of us or they want to control every bit of our lives...sometimes i wonder 'what are they thinking?' ..let us just live how we want to live! and that's my soapbox for the day!

today kerry, ashley and katelyn (ashley's roommate) took off into the gray cloudy sky to go to peru! how exciting! they are going for a month and will be working in kindergarten classes...what a great experience...they will be living in the sacred valley which is near machu picchu...they will live with a family so they will learn alot...so adios amigas!

day to day

do you ever wonder "what have i been doing"? that's what i'm thinking right now....

i haven't posted for about 2 weeks and i wonder 'where the time has gone"....i know i've been busy...i went to slc to hear my sister and sister in law speak at byu's women's conference...i was very proud of both of them..they were the best at the conference...then, we heard pres. monson which was a fantastic experience...

on saturday we went to niels moller's big 50th birthday party..

.after the barbecue we went to the sl real vs la galaxy soccer game..

we saw david beckham play which was great...

on sunday i flew to denver to see my new baby..

tommy is a doll...he was so good, so sweet....kate has turned into such a fun little girl...she talks nonstop and says the most fun things...kelly is feeling much better...willie was home from work for a couple of weeks..so great fun...then home again...

and the party has started...

. russ and kerry and many friends were home...alot of fun...i'm not used to having noise in the house anymore...it's great.....

we had a fun mother's day dinner at the saddle peak lodge...yum!!!

then, on mother's day,

kelly invited us down to celebrate...that was wonderful also...

and since then, it's been getting kerry ready for peru,

helping to plan youth conference,

lots of different meetings and such....it's been a whirlwind....especially with the kids around...so, i guess it's been alot of 'this and that'....nothing too exciting...kerry leaves on friday...that will be a big day for her....

so, i guess what i've been doing is 'living life'..

the golf tournament turned out wonderful...it's always such fun to see all of my old friends and tom's great friends..it turned out to be a beautiful day, fantastic weather...couldn't have asked for better...the golfers had a great time...then we have a silent auction, dinner, prizes...it was just great...we had a little smaller turnout...but, many friends that came from far off places...i really appreciate that...this year the tournament was in Uncel Russ' honor...we had people write memories of him and i read them during the dinner...that was fun...i'm so grateful for karen's help...she is in charge of anything that is really important...so we couldn't have this tournament without her non- stop help...she's the greatest...i'm lucky to have her for my friend...so a HUGE thank you to you, karen...so until next year!!!

yesterday afternoon my newest grandchild was born!!! hip hip hooray!!! Thomas Kay Mullin was born and weighed in at 7'11 lbs and 21" long...he has black hair and looks darling....his proud parents are willie and kelly mullin and big sister kate!!! we have been waiting for him and he took awhile getting here but what joy now that he is here!!! kelly is celebrating her birthday in 'style' at the hospital today...so have a very happy day....i'm so thrilled for you both...

it's that time of the year again...the tom mullin memorial tournament is this monday...so, i'm going craaaaaazyy....the last week has been non stop...everyday was go, go, go...last thursday was a packed day...couldn't have fit another thing in...but, the best thing that happened was that kerry and russ came home!!! yippee!!! the worst thing that happened...our baby didn't come on his due date:( where oh where are you little boy? i think your mom and dad are tired of waiting to see your cute little face...so hopefully he will come soon....so i've got alot to be exicted about and grateful for...so until monday is over...see you later...wish me luck!!

i bought this little book that is by maria shriver...it was interesting because it is about figuring out 'who' not 'what' you want to be....i saw this quote that went along the same lines:





Create the kind of self you will be happy to live with all your life.





every phase of our lives teaches us new things that shape us...how we put that into our lives is how we become the people we are...


so, who do you want to be? For me...i want to be kind, loving, happy, generous, thoughtful, wise, good, spiritual, fun and the greatest grandma ever...(aren't i already the greatest mom?)
i'll keep working on who i want to be...hopefully, it will take my whole life...

getting dressed

so, from my previous post, you know i wanted to lay out today and didn't....so, i had to get dressed...and i decided that this is a pain....why do women have to do so much work to be gorgeous ( or wish we were gorgeous)? and then, we look the same anyway...i guess the makeup and things i do give me the confidence that i look ok...even after it wears off...in my mind i still look good...and maybe that's all that matters...

fireplaces

today when i woke up bright and early (maybe not so bright) i made a looooong list of all the many things i need to do today...then, when i went outside to excercise i saw what an absolutely gorgeous day is was...heard it's going to be really, really hot...and immediately bagged all of the things to do (i'm really good at that) and thought 'i'll lay out today instead....so, after excercising....i was doing some fast little cleanup, so i wouldn't feel to guilty while i was lounging outside...when to my surprise, what showed up? well, to back track....i like to do projects around the house.and yes, my last project of redoing the fireplace in the living is done,

actually since about dec.. this house is ever revolving and changing...(keeps it interesting) and about 3 weeks ago i mentioned to my landscaper that i would like to take out the waterfall that goes into our pool and put a big fireplace there instead..( the waterfall is beautiful, but sounds like Niagra Falls, so i don't turn it on). he' going 'well, it will take some work'....etc.etc...so, i sort of put it in the back of my mind....well...his guys showed up today....ready to demolish!

and they are busily doing just that...

i called oliver and said, 'so i guess we're starting? and he said yes, they drew a plan today! i laughed...but, i have to say....he's so talented that he just usually tells me what they are going to do...it's really not my yard...it's his...so, i know it will look great...so, in the long run....i'm getting what i wanted...but, i had to go to work on my list instead of laying in the sun all day....bummer....

california/utah women

today was fun, i went to the california/utah women luncheon at the disney hotel. it's an orginization that started back in the late 30's and helps the ettie lee home for children with donations etc...they do alot of great things for them throughout the year...they have a boutique before the lunch and surprise, surprise, who did i see, but this girl! she was busy selling pearl jewelry...i went down with larene and alison...we met up with kelly. we sat at a table with a few others that are kelly's friend...it's also fun because my mom's good friend, joyce wing, is involved with this charity, so we saw her and 2 of her daughters (one is actually kelly's good friend--small world)...the lunch was good, then we were entertained by "the brett family" which is a singing family from branson, mi....it was fun day...fun to be with friends and do something different....

it's the small things

on a previous post this week, i mentioned i had a sinus infection...you may be wondering why i'm talking about this today....but, it's because of a small pill i've taken this week...i always have sinus/allergy problems....and i mean all year long...and today it was the greatest, i woke up and my nose was perfectly clear!!!! might not mean much to you, but, i'm thrilled...plus, i woke up and wasn't tired...i don't think i get enough oxygen at night, so i'm always tired....so happy, happy day.....another small thing to be happy about is 'wireless'...my desktop has been on the blink, so i'm on my laptop....which is great, but the most fun thing is, my printer is wireless, and i just hit print and it actually prints in the other room....thats another thrill...something that actually works like it's supposed to...so, like i say...this might not mean much to you....but, it makes me really HAPPY!!!
